SKINHEAD - "It's A Beautiful Day, What A Beautiful Day" Review

Every once in a while a band comes a long that truly just clicks for me immediately.

Skinhead is one of those bands, I stumbled upon them through someone sharing their aptly named demo when it first came out. I was hooked instantly.

It’s fairly straightforward Oi! influenced punk/hardcore. Tows a line of meat and potatoes, catchy leads and punchy drums but to be honest what more would you want from this kinda band? The true thing that stands out are the lyrics and the lyrical delivery. (Have you ever heard someone rhyme the word snarky with car key? Incredible stuff.).

The singer, Josh Long has a real way with words. Lyrically he could paint a picture so vivid, it might even make Morrissey smile (or grimace, depending on how you look at it. Released along with the album is a short story. It reads exactly like one of the more nostalgic songs on this album. The album itself is short and sweet. But very fun, even hilarious at times. Josh Long is great at telling you a story of a past you’ve never had.

You look like an actress, with those tear stains on your mattress”

I guess that’s my penance, for living life like a menace”

Sometimes the tongue in cheek approach doesn’t translate well, or seems too goofy. This manages to make me chuckle, while still feeling like total hooligan music.

I give this a 75/100, highly recommended a very quick and easy listen. I hope they keep up this momentum.
